You would think having a talented photographer as a husband would have its advantages…that’s not always so. When Miss Bobbi was born, I kept begging my husband to shoot her newborn photos….three weeks went by before a shot was ever taken. So when Amarii made his way into the world – I knew I wanted to capture the newness of him immediately, and I would just pay someone to get it done! Erica Rodriquez had already been there to capture the birth of Amarii…and she also did my maternity shoot #2. So it felt right to have her come shoot Amarii’s first photo shoot. Since she was part of my husband photography team…he didn’t seem too offended when I broke the news to him. It also gave him a chance to be a part of the experience, instead of behind the lens.
For the shoot – we wanted to include Miss Bobbi and also take our first official family photo. We did the shoot at home…some in our living room…some in our backyard…and some in our bedroom. Amarii was 13 days new – so he was still in his sleepy stage – which is what we wanted for the shots. It was clear that newborn shots are one of Erica’s speciality! She was so patient and new exactly how to set up the shots to keep Amarii comfortable and quiet. She also knew how to keep the big sis engaged and feel part of the process.
